AoS Auction update....(source AoS / reported by AMORONE)

AoS Auction Update:
It is still in development, but gets a bit ignored as I add new items, enter prices, pour through auctions and add little quick fixes and things here and there....oh yeh, and maintaining some semblance of a social life. BUT it will be here soon! I hope within the next month. So why am I building this thing and what makes it different than eBay? For one....it is all of ours...the collecting commmunity. We will develop it as is most useful to us. All input will be considered. So what does that mean? Here are some features:

(1) ONLY approved items may be auctioned. This includes decks, wheels, trucks, etc. BUT does NOT include 14k gold skatebaord pendants, skating smurfs, raver shirts, and all the other trash that clogs the "skateboard" searches on eBay! Any such auctions WILL be dropped immediately with no refund given.

(2) Only verified members of AoS will be allowed to participate in the auctions. Verified? It means that your email address will be verified among other things and that you must physically update your member profile to acknoweldge that you have read our Auction rules and terms and accept them. Along with this, since members can not change usernames, this should make "name changing" non-existent.

(3) One of my favorites...."Anti-Snipe"...how does it work? If a bid comes in within the last 10 minutes of a auction, the auction is automatically extended 10 more minutes. For each bid after, the same process continues until no more bids are made. This more closely resembles a TRUE auctions..."Going once? Going twice? Any more bidders?...SOLD!". It should level the playing field for folks with slower connections as well as run off those annoying last second snipers.

(4) "But what will it cost?" Right now, I am considering charging a small fee just to post an auction (somewhere between $3-$8...and most likely on the lower end) BUT we will not be charging off the end price or any other nonsense. Your money is your money...we just ask a small fee for providing the service. Any ideas here would be most helpful!

(5) Seller/Bidder feedback and "Certified" status...As with any auction, you will be able to provide feedback for each other and so forth. You will also be able to apply for "AoS Certified Collector" status. This process will entail going over your selling history as well as you providing a list of references who will post on your behalf. After approval, you will be allowed to display a "AoS Certified Collector" image on your auctions...ours or elsewhere...that can be linked right to your feedback, references and history. Still working this out.....the devil is in the details, ya know.

Well, that's the big ones I can remember right now. Best get back to coding! Please send any ideas or feedback you have on this issue. Till next time....
