AoS-Fest III : Ohio or Bust!

Day 3: Sunday October 23rd
|
Mother Nature has other plans for AoS-fest III yet again
|
Once again, we were up early. We had to pack up and check out. We also wanted to get up, so we could skate the Powell park before leaving today.
Peaking out the hotel window, everything was dry. It was still grayish out, but at least it was dry. We headed out towards Rob’s, stopping only for breakfast/lunch at
Einstein’s Bagels. We had wanted to eat at Bob Evan’s since Jay had never experienced that treat, but the wait was about an hour….time we did not have to spare. Besides,
Einstein’s hit the spot just fine. We got to Rob’s house around noon. Somehow he managed to get "permission" to skate today after being out all day/night yesterday.
As Rob put it "she [wife] did not really speak to me much last night after I got home….she didn’t say I couldn’t skate…." (haha). We found out that Tim was not so
lucky and was staying home for the day with his wife and son. According to Tim, it was his decision….mmm….okay, Tim. haha

Rob and Miranda loaded up, and we followed them off towards the Powell park. Not five minutes from getting there, sure enough, it started to rain lightly.
By the time we pulled up to the skatepark, it was almost covered, and was soaked completely not long after. It was a great looking park! Large street area with all kinds of
stuff and most importantly to us, a kidney bowl that was near “backyard pool” quality complete with loveseat, deathbox, super tight shallow end transition, etc. Chris Higgins
(Five Points Skates pro from yesterday) was there with some friends. He had been at the park since 8 am because he gives lessons there when in town. It was great to see him
again, but I wish we would have got to skate with him too. He was a bit bummed too. He and his out of town friends finally left. Our gang kinda hung out, walking around,
checking out the park and drawing up the “what if” lines in our minds. Rob told us stories of what the locals do there. I snapped some pictures to at least say I was there
if nothing else.
|
Well, we still had several hours before needing to be at the airport. Rob suggested we check out Sun Sports skateshop to kill some time.
I was familiar with the place since the owner emails AOS every once in a while about some old school decks in his collection. (Tim says he has stacks and stacks
that I don’t even know about!) It is a great skate shop…large and lots of products for skating and snowboarding….and they support and sell Five Points decks and
clothing! Jay wanted to find some shop shirts for his two boys, but they did not have any in stock.
|
After killing about 30 minutes there, we still had plenty of time. Little Miranda suggested we hit the local mall nearby. There was nothing
else we could do, so why not. Here this little girl was leading four adult men on a shopping trip. (Haha) Actually, Rob needed to shop for her, Jay was still looking
for something to take his sons, I didn’t mind checking out video games and Mike was on a hunt for Godzilla and/or obscure horror movies so it worked out fine. We did
our thing there and managed to kill off what time we had left. Jay and I told everyone "till next time" and headed for the airport. We had a quick dinner after checking
in and getting our tickets, and then went our separate ways. Jay was heading back to Birmingham, and I was going back to Phoenix for the week. With that, AoS-fest 3 had
come to an end...a fun, adventurous and successful end as well!
