Day 3: Saturday December 9th - West Phoenix Tour |
|||||||||||||||||||||
Like yesterday, we were in need of some rest time. We grabbed some beers and once again hit the hot tub. Thank God the hotel had a good hot tub! That thing works wonders on sore feet and backs! Too relaxing. Sadly, we lost one of the crew. Butch found out that he had to be in another state for work early Monday morning so he had to change plans and fly home earlier than expected. Back at the hotel, he had to pack up and say his good-byes to our group. He would miss out on one more park, but I think he had gotten more than his fill in his three days in Phoenix. He joined us for one last beer and was off to the airport. We soaked a bit more until well past dark and decided it was time for dinner. Once more, up to the rooms, changed, ready and off to dinner. | |||||||||||||||||||||
Out on the town in Tempe |

We headed down to Mill Avenue, the heart of the ASU campus. Every college area has a street like it. Mill is where all the bars and restaurants can be found…..that also means cheap drinks and hot girls!(haha) We had a hell of time finding a parking place due to some unknown event going on that night. Once parked, we made our way to a local brewery restaurant. For our bad luck, the top part of the restaurant was rented for a private party and the wait was over an hour. We balked and headed to a second place, Z’Tejas. The wait there was only 20 minutes or so, and that time was filled with Kerry entertaining us. He was slightly tipsy and cat calling any girl that he saw. We also had fun checking out the older rich guys pulling up in fancy cars and getting out with way younger girls with lots of plastic surgery. Always a good time!(haha) Barry and another friend from home that now lives in Arizona, Jeff Taylor, joined us for dinner too. Dinner itself was pretty good and fairly tame. Surprisingly, we didn’t get into any trouble with our waitress or the table nearby. After dinner, Barry and Jeff headed home, but our smaller group was ready to hit the town. Jay, Kerry, Patrick and I headed off to the Library, a fun local bar known for it’s "librarians". It was still early for a Saturday night, so the place wasn’t too crowded. As I was driving for the night now, I had to pace. Only one beer for me. The others however jumped right in and started things with an "Irish Car Bomb". Ugg. They followed that with another round of beers while we sat talking, people watching and talking about this great new band called Lipslide that is just insanely good. From there, we headed over to the Tavern, one of my local favorites. They often play old skate videos and always keep Fuel TV on several sets. It was fairly busy. Patrick, Kerry and Jay enjoyed a round of "Jaeger Bombers" there. After that drink, we found a table to sit outside. I think sitting down was the wrong idea. It seemed to tap what energy we all had right out of us. I am not sure who made the call, but we soon decided to head back to the hotel. We were all just too tired and sore to party all night and get up early to skate. Back at the hotel, we grabbed what beer we had left and went back to the hot tub to soak. Not long after midnight, everyone called it a night and went to their rooms. Another long day came to and end. Before everyone went to bed, I made sure to ask if everyone was still willing to get up and skate one more park. True to form, they were all still up for the challenge and voted a resounding "yes". |
