Day 4: Sunday December 10th

Sunday services at the Church of Skatin session...The Wedge Skate Park

I was awoken again by the alarm that seemed to come too soon. We got to sleep in a bit today though. 8:45 am was the "lobby call" to meet. I got up around 8 am and got down to breakfast. Once more, Patrick was there too. I was surprised anyone was going to make it let alone Patrick. Next down was Jay followed by Kerry shortly after. We got some breakfast and headed out for the last park of the 3 day tour, Scottsdale’s Wedge skatepark. I wanted to take them there for a few reasons. First off, it is smaller….not in the size of the park but the size of the transitions and so forth…so it makes of a good last day, easy park. Second, it is one of the first free concrete parks in Phoenix. Lastly, the small flow area and corner section it has is unlike anything else at the other parks around as well as most anywhere you would go period. It’s just a very interesting, little, fun, neighborhood park. We got there shortly after 9 am and got rolling around. I soon noticed a familiar face. Finally, we were skating with Rob Locker of AZPX and Arizona Board Company! Rob was there with his son, Mason and another AZPX skater, Greg Calabrese, I was stoked to finally get to skate with them and introduce them to my friends. Patrick, Jay, Kerry and I were all getting warmed up and use to the odd little flow area. Patrick really seemed to like it. As he said, it reminded him more of ditch skating, and he liked it because you could keep going around forever if you wanted too. True to form for this trip, I was getting warmed up and had a good line figured out to keep going around the flow bowl. My second time of going around and around for an extended run, I popped out and felt that "urge". I ran to the grass and puked again. I could hear Jay go "Oh know…not again" over my shoulder. So that did it. Out of 8 parks in 3 days, I had managed to puke at 4 of them. Yea me! Being sick sucks! Well, I called it a day and snapped pictures. Kerry had had his fill of the smaller park and was just kind of checking out the overall park. Jay seemed to be to tired and sore to skate. His ankles were really bothering him after skating for so much in the past 3 days. Patrick could have probably stayed all day just skating the flow area, but I think he could tell we were ready to go. I told Rob and his crew good-bye.(I later found out from Rob that Wrex showed up just after we left….doh!) We got back to the hotel shortly after 10 am. From there, things were kind of a whirlwind. I gassed up the van to return it while the others packed and checked out. I loaded them up, exchanged the van for a car at the rental place and said good-bye to the guys as they headed to the airport. I headed back, grabbed a quick lunch, got to the hotel, took some Nyquil and spent the rest of the day finally being as sick as I should have been the whole time. With that, another AoS-fest had come to a close. I think it had been the best one yet, and I am already looking forward to the next one!
Thanks to everyone who made the trip for this year’s event. I know it was on short notice and I appreciate the effort of those that made it and those that tried. This year has just been super busy for me in general, but that is still no excuse for poor planning on my part. Luckily, it turned out to be a fantastic time for all. For those that didn’t make it, I hope to see you at AoS-fest V...in the planning stages already!!! See you there!
