At 8:30 am, I arrived at the skate park to help with set-up and such before the contest began. The doors were suppose to open at 9am, and there was already quite a crowd there when I pulled up. Brian Kelly and his crew were busily making last minute preparations. Dave Duncan, Don Bostick and Sasha Steinhorst were getting entry fees collected, skaters signed up and into the right divisions. A line was forming outside as more and more people arrived. As with most large events, some things took longer than expected and the crowd was not let in till close to 11 am. No big worries though. Most folks outside just mingled and caught up with friends that came out to check the contest and hung out at the SkateAlabama.com tent that was set up and selling t-shirts. I got to catch up with friends I use to skate with long ago and had not seen in years. Most had stopped skating long ago as life had caught up with them and priorities changed and such, but they made it out to see the pros and old friends too.
