After-Party |

After the contest and all the activity at the park had wound down, everyone headed over to the nearby Papa Sias Pizzaria & Sports Grille. By the time we got there, the party was well under way. The first order of business for everyone was getting some food in them after spending a long day at the park. Once everyone was full and many of the "kids" had gone home, the real party began. Dave Duncan grabbed the microphone and gave out some prizes and freebies. Most notably, Blair "Slob-Air" Watson of the Skull&Bones Skateboards Forum fame who had made the trip all the way from Calgary to cover the event for Concrete Wave magazine was given a special award, a custom hand-painted deck by local artist Tim Spinosi. Surprised by the award, Blair seemed a bit overwhelmed and very grateful. After the freebies and awards and such, there was some an impromptu, attempted freestyle rap by "Alabama" Billy Lohrig that went horribly wrong quickly. Choppy Omega grabbed the mic and salvaged what he could with a freestyle rap of his own. Soon, Ray Fennessey got control of the microphone and introduced Dave Reaul who had set up to play on stage. That was an interesting treat. Dave had wanted to bring his whole band, the Skatanic Rednecks, out, but we would have to settle for Dave solo on his guitar. After a while, the crowd began to thin, and it was time for me to call it a night. I headed out and happened to run into some friends who were talking to Hosoi outside. A few quick photos and I was headed home to get some sleep for tomorrow's big day of more skating. | ||||||||||||||||
